Key features of proposed Jan Lokpal bill

  1. To establish a central government anti-corruption institution called Lokpal, supported by Lokayukta at the state level.
  2. As is the case with the Supreme Court of India and Cabinet Secretariat, the Lokpal will be supervised by the Cabinet Secretary and the Election Commission. As a result, it will be completely independent of the government and free from ministerial influence in its investigations.
  3. Members will be appointed by judges, Indian Administrative Service officers with a clean record, private citizens and constitutional authorities through a transparent and participatory process.
  4. A selection committee will invite short-listed candidates for interviews, the video recordings of which will thereafter be made public.
  5. Every month on its website, the Lokayukta will publish a list of cases dealt with, brief details of each, their outcome and any action taken or proposed. It will also publish lists of all cases received by the Lokayukta during the previous month, cases dealt with and those which are pending.
  6. Investigations of each case must be completed in one year. Any resulting trials should be concluded in the following year, giving a total maximum process time of two years.
  7. Losses to the government by a corrupt individual will be recovered at the time of conviction.
  8. Government office-work required by a citizen that is not completed within a prescribed time period will result in Lokpal imposing financial penalties on those responsible, which will then be given as compensation to the complainant.
  9. Complaints against any officer of Lokpal will be investigated and completed within one month and, if found to be substantive, will result in the officer being dismissed within two months.
  10. The existing anti-corruption agencies [CVC], departmental vigilance and the anti-corruption branch of the [CBI] will be merged into Lokpal which will have complete power authority to independently investigate and prosecute any officer, judge or politician.
  11. Whistle-blowers who alert the agency to potential corruption cases will also be provided with protection by it.

Oru Kal Oru Kannadi(OK OK..) – Review

Udhayanidhi Stallin, the producer turned actor, is in combo with Santhanam in his first film as an actor. The screen charmer, Hansika Motwani is the love interest of Udayanidhi. Oru Kal Oru Kannadi movie is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin for Red Giant. The story is written by the director himself,M. Rajesh. Music is scored by Harris Jayaraj and cinematography is by Balasubramaniem. Vivek Harshan has done the editing part of the film. Now, lets read on and see how Oru Kal Oru Kannadi movie review goes.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s maiden venture as hero is finally out. As expected with director M Rajesh and Santhanam around, it is a laughathon that begins from reel one. Spice it up with the beauty and glamour of Hansika Motwani and good music by Harris Jeyaraj, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi ends up a funny ride that is sure to make you sit and laugh it loud.

The highlight of Rajesh’s earlier films are colloquial wits and punchline with Santhanam hogging the limelight. Oru Kal Oru Kannadi is no different. The movie begins in a brik pace and there is no absolute story but situational comedies make it count. The whole movie begins on a flashback. Saravanan (Udhaynidhi) gets a wedding invitation of Meera (Hansika) asking him not to attend. Flashback reveals what transpired between them.

Saravanan and Parthasarathy (Santhanam) are good buddies. Both have a whale of time and spend all time together. Both work in a multiplex. One fine day, Saravanan comes across Meera and chase her till her house. He falls for her instantly. She hates his proposal. Now Saravanan takes the help of Partha. The duo goes hammer and tongs to see that Meera falls for Saravanan.

There are twists and turs, ut teir plans keep failing. Finally all ends well with a surprise. Rajesh gets the best from his artistes. Being a commercial film, the actors are not expected to be perfect in their emotions or expressions. The comedy aspect makes one forget all those even logics. Udhay, being a novice in acting, gets his act well. He sports a smiling look and does his part well. But his dancing skills needs to be improved. Hansika as bubbly Meera is cute and chubby. She plays a typical heroine of Tamil cinema. She refutes Saravanan’s love only to fall for him later. Interestingly she passes out in flying colours not just in romance but also in comedy.

The scene-stealer of course is Santhanam. He is the backbone of the movie getting the vision of Rajesh live on screen. His body language and dialogue delivery make one go in splits. Especailly the sequence in an aeroplane is a laugh riot. Sneha makes a cameo as air-hostess while Arya and Andrea appear as lovers in climax. Saranya, Azhagam perumal and Shayaji Shinde add colour to the story.

The one-liners , shrewd idea of Rajesh is remarkable and enjoyable. Cinematography by Balasubramaniem is another strength. City has been captured in bright colours while crisp editing by Vivek Harehan makes it racy.Harris Jeyaraj has caught the pulse of youngsters well. The songs Venam Machi… , Kadhal Oru.. and Akila AKila…. are catchy and foot-taping.Rajesh has made it three-ina-row now. After SMS and Boss Engira Baskaran, his good run continues with Oru Kal Oru Kannadi.

India’s earth quake issues tsunami warning

Tremors of today’s earthquake off Aceh were also felt in Singapore and Thailand among other nations in South East Asia.

The Government of India has also issued a tsunami warning for theAndaman Islands and the east coast after a powerful earthquake rattled Indonesia’s Aceh province.

Tremors were felt in Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Kochi and Guwahati in India, reports said.

Tremors of today’s earthquake off Aceh were also felt in Singapore and Thailand among other nations in South East Asia.

India’s tsunami warning center said that waves measuring up to 6 metres were expected along parts of its eastern coast, which was badly hit by the 2004 tsunami.

Smaller waves were expected to hit the remote Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Andaman islands have been put on alert following the quake off Sumatra.

A giant 9.1-magnitude quake off Indonesia on Dec. 26, 2004, triggered a massive tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed 230,000 people, nearly three quarter of them in Aceh.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where the meeting of continental plates causes strong seismic activity, including earthquakes and volcanic activity.

India’s Union Home Ministry has asked the Chief Secretaries of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and all East Coast States to issue a Coastal Alert, in view of the warning issued by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) following a powerful earthquake off the Indonesian coast today.

The fishermen have been advised not to venture out in the sea. The Andaman Administration has moved people from Nicobar side to safer areas, as a precautionary measure. The precautionary drill has been activated.

NDRF teams have been deployed and kept on standby as a precautionary measure. Six teams have moved to Chennai. In addition, six more teams have moved to Hindon airport. Airlift will be organized by the Air Force in case these teams need to be flown.
